MAY 2017 Trent RCMFC safety bulletin

Hello to all members,

We have had a report of someone "lone flying" at colwick today and, as you all know, this is a practice that is absolutely forbidden and the rule actually forms part of our lease from the council. Apparently the perpetrator knew it was forbidden and left the site under the watchful eye of one of the groundskeepers, which is absolutely the right thing to do given the circumstances.

We must remind the membership that any member lone flying WILL be subject to varying discipline from the committee.

NEWS    04-03-2017

Hopefully (fingers crossed) everyone is ready to emerge from their winter hibernation and at least think about going flying sometime soon!! One person, however, has decided it is time to hang up his glow-start and chicken stick for the last time. Our previous club minutes secretary, Eric Lancaster, has made the decision to downsize their property, and will be moving to York with his wife once his house sale is complete. Being at the ripe old age of 83 now, Eric has made the decision that he will not be flying again, and as such is clearing out his entire collection of planes, radios and tools he has amassed over the years at prices (I am told) that will be ridiculously low, with the proceeds going towards the (many) skips the family is having to use to clear everything else that is not following them on their move.

If you would like to enquire about any of the items, or just to register your interest, can you please contact Eric's daughter, Elaine, either by phone on 07815445297 or by email at efcollinson5@hotmail.co.uk

The intention is for those parties interested to attend (at a time that the family will arrange) on Saturday the 18th of March when all the items will be readily accessible for inspection and purchase. Please do not ask to attend at any other time or for any other reason as the family is VERY busy with both their normal lives and this move/house sale.

NEWS    2017-01-13 JANUARY

This maybe  the new club grass mower which Trent R.M.F.C are hoping to purchase to replace the old one for, for more improved grass cutting for the 2017 season

Thursday the 5th of January 2017, there is a team from the BBC using a UAV (drone etc.) to film the (actual) racecourse, which includes overflying the centre of the racecourse which we use. If you are (lucky enough to be) flying then please be aware of this and stand down as necessary.

7PM ON THURSDAY THE 10 TH OF NOVEMBER

This years Trent RCMFC Annual General Meeting is just around the corner and all the details and paperwork you need as a current member are supplied with the club newsletter.

To be held AT 7PM ON THURSDAY THE 10 TH OF NOVEMBER 2016, AT OUR CURRENT VENUE - COLWICK COMMUNITY CENTRE, Vale Road, Colwick village, NG4 2GP (opposite the vale social club)

Feedback gained from last years AGM, at which a record number of members turned up for, has pushed us to continue with the excellent value for money service you members receive, especially at this time of year. Unfortunately, there has to a little bit of give to go with the take, and the following sacrifice that is being made is purely for efficiency and to enable us to continue to offer concessions at the AGM. Any BMFA membership arranged through the club MUST be submitted BEFORE the 1st of FEBRUARY 2017.

The club will only be sending TWO bulk applications to the BMFA, the first being at the end of the AGM week, the second at the end of January.

Unlike last year, the committee have decided that everyone missed out on us having a buffet, so this year we are endeavouring to supply a light buffet AS WELL as the hot drinks that were enjoyed last time.

As with last year, due to the positioning of the venue, any member that fancies an alcoholic beverage is able to purchase them from the social club over the road and return to the venue, any glasses can be left at the venue at the end of the night.

After last years successful AGM, back due to popular demand, and to ensure ALL members benefit, FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY again, you will be able to renew your club membership at the reduced rate of £15 yes £15!!

NEWS, OCTOBER 2016

No flying Saturday 29th October

Music Festival All Day

NEWS, SEPTEMBER /OCTOBER 2016

Anyone who (is lucky enough) may be flying this Saturday 1st October , that we have been notified that a horse is being stabled during the day on Saturday before flying out from East Midlands airport. Due to this, the horse will need to be exercised during the day, and why this doesn't necessarily mean that flying should be cancelled, can all members please be aware and act accordingly if this fine beast appears on the field. We have been assured that the exercising will be done over by the grandstand area, so we'll out of our way, but obviously the horse is stabled over our side of the racecourse so due care must be taken.

Thanking you all in advance.

New, TRENT RCMFC Rule Addition

27/04/2016

Safety,

Ground works on the racecourse site, whether they are by council workers, racecourse staff or simply the mowing of the clubs patch must ALWAYS take precedence over flying for both safety and maintenance reasons. Anyone reportedly flying whilst it is unsafe to do so for the above reasons is liable to investigation by the clubs safety officer and the committee.

Thank you for your understanding with this matter."

CODE OF PRACTICE

News 3April 2016

"Although the club does have a key for the main (double) gates, this is for ACCESS FOR MAINTENANCE ONLY. Although the double gates are normally open, and members are able to access the pit area by vehicle, we must emphasise that this is more of a privilege than a right. Can ALL MEMBERS who drive onto the site please do so only at walking pace and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES must ANY vehicle be allowed to drive onto ANY grass, whether that be our patch or any other, with one wheel or all four.
For any member that has a disability and cannot access the site via the side (combination lock) gate, please make representation to any member of the committee and we will treat each member on a needs basis.

Thank you for your understanding with this matter."

2016 News

Hopefully you've all had an excellent Christmas and new year and are now looking forward to the days getting longer, the weather warmer (and drier!!!) and some flying taking place!!

The first club meeting of the year is being held at our usual venue, colwick community centre, on THURSDAY the 14th of JANUARY AT 8PM......yes 8PM!!!

As stated in last years AGM newsletter and subsequently at the AGM itself, the club will only be sending TWO batches of BMFA renewals, the first was sent in December, the second will be mailed on the 1st of February. No renewals will be processed by the club after this time with the exception of new club members. If you do not agree with this, or have a different idea for helping or making the club run better or smoother,

PLEASE please please do come down to the meeting and let the other club members and committee know your thoughts and ideas, after all, this is the members' club, and as a member you are entitled to bring ANYTHING up in the meeting if you feel it is necessary.

Ok, that's all from me for now, hope to see you all at the meeting.

Trent Radio Control Model Flying Club
2015 AGM News

Hello to all Trent members, especially the new ones as there are quite a few of you this year.

After quite a decent summer of flying, both during the day and in the evenings, the nights are now closing in and the “changeable” weather we are currently experiencing means that more of us are finding solitude at the workbench instead of socialising with like minded aviators. This years Trent RCMFC Annual General Meeting is just around the corner and all the details and paperwork you need as a current member are supplied with this newsletter.

To be held AT 7PM ON MONDAY THE 9TH OF NOVEMBER 2015, AT OUR CURRENT VENUE - COLWICK COMMUNITY CENTRE, Vale Road, Colwick village, NG4 2GP (opposite the vale social club)

Any BMFA membership arranged through the club MUST be submitted BEFORE the 1st of FEBRUARY 2016.

More importantly, within the envelope which this newsletter was in, there is a nomination and proposal form. There may well be some committee members wanting to step down for personal of other reasons, so if you feel you’re ready to step up and make a difference, fill out a nomination form or stand up and be heard.

If there is anything you would like to see happen within or by the club, please use the proposal form for this purpose. Anything from competitions to social events can be discussed, but only if it is conveyed to the committee.

Anyone who is a club member is entitled to be put forward for any committee position, and any member can propose any changes they would like to see within the club no matter what it is. Proposals must be received by close of business on Friday 31st of October 2015. Unfortunately, anything received after this deadline cannot be taken into consideration.

Also included is a2016 application form. Rather than waiting around to see what price the BMFA puts to its annual membership for 2016, the committee have decided to apply 2015 prices to all members who renew their membership through Trent RCMFC.           BARGAIN!!

I hope as many of you as possible turn up to the AGM, the club belongs to the members and this is your chance as an individual to have a say in how you want it running, what you would like to see and what you would like to do. You have a voice, please come and use it, 7pm Monday 9th November 2015.

See you there…

There is a new model shop in Ilkeston at the bottom of Bath Street used to be a motor bike place (Granby's?) He has quite a lot of kits i.e. foam nearly ready to fly, some bits and pieces and Balsa. Says he will get more if people use the shop It's called Malc's Models Model prices a reasonable and of course you don't have to pay postage.

Well done to  Hugh, Phil ,Ed, for passing their B.M.F.A  Achievement Scheme  A test on 3rd September.

TRENT RCMFC CLUB MEETING MONDAY THE 10th OF AUGUST 8pm COLWICK PARISH HALL, VALE ROAD, COLWICK.

Right, down to club matters now.
As you should be fully aware, the club belongs to the membership, with the day-to-day running and maintaining of the club, and indeed now the flying site itself, being carried out by club officers elected by the membership at the clubs AGM (annually).
The biggest change to the club recently (probably in the last decade) is the changeover from having our site maintained for us, for a small fee,

to purchasing our own equipment to maintain the site to our own specifications.

To this effect, a small number of both committee members and club members have been tending to the grass over the summer with fantastic results.

For next year, however, it is the aim of the committee to have the membership involved with this, anticipating that every member will only have to be present twice in any year (approx 3 hours per year).

This should also help with the social side of the club as you may well be "on rota" with someone you don't see very often.

Any views on this matter can be emailed to me prior to the meeting, or brought along to the meeting for airing and discussion.

There have been a few safety issues in the last month or so, most importantly we must remind the membership that it is a requirement of the local authority (our landlord, so to speak) that there can be NO LONE FLYING.

This means no "flying", and preferably no engine running, without another "competent" person present.

Competent means someone who is able to call an ambulance should you lose the digits required to dial the number yourself, not necessarily another club member or pilot.
The other issue is with the "it's a knockout" Saturday corporate events, most notably the fact that they have started to drive down to the grandstand area right where we stand, pit and fly including driving on the grass and driving with excess speed (black BMW). This has prompted action by ourselves, including a visit whilst they were "open for business" where they claimed they had never been aware that there was a problem with this........which prompted the St. John's ambulance staff on site to step in and state that it had been made "perfectly clean on numerous occasions" that no one should drive past the flying area, but ANY vehicle (with the exception of an ambulance) should drive across the site upon entry so as to avoid endangering any other site users. The latest issues will be conveyed to both the racecourse staff (as the area is theirs and leased from them) and the local authority. If ANY member has ANY problem or concern with these users, information regarding such events should be emailed or phoned to the club secretary in the first instance.

Week commencing Monday the 17th of August, the pony club will be using a small area of infield down at the pub (starting gate, east end) of the racecourse, Monday to Friday business hours only. Can members please be aware of this and refrain from overflying both them and the immediate vicinity surrounding them, many thanks the committee.

Any other issues or topics you would like discussed at the club meeting, please email them to the club secretary no later than close of business Friday the 7th of August.
Remember, it's your club and your views are important, see you there.

Tom Shaw
(Club secretary)

8th JUNE NEWS

Hopefully,..............hopefully, the weather is at last on the turn for the better and will allow us some quality time flying at the racecourse site. Whilst on the subject of the site, and after the decision was made at the last club meeting, the club now has its own mower(s) and will be responsible for its own grass care from now on. To date, the chairman and treasurer have mowing with the club mower(s) improving the surface with every cut. Due praise should go to Ashley and Phil for losing their cool with the ground staff and attacking the grass with a push mower, setting the precedent for a new era of the clubs runway. Anyone wishing to help out with the mowing, please let us know. Currently, a couple of people can do the whole site in around 60 minutes although with practice and the second mower coming into use this time should be reduced.

On Wednesday the 24th of June the club is holding its first tabletop sale. Taking place at our regular venue, tables are £5 each booked in advance and entry is £2 on the door. Although numbers are in the single figures still, we're hoping that there will be a last minute flurry of sellers to make an event of this type viable again in the future. Please support the club with this event, every table booking allows two (2) people entry to the sale allowing sellers an extra discount.

Although our safety record at Trent is outstanding, we (as a responsible committee) have to implement small changes whenever there is a newly emerging oversight regarding the safety of both individuals and a group (both club members AND other users of the site). Over the last year, concerns have been both noted and reported to the committee regarding electric models, especially those with an undercarriage, that remain unrestrained in the pits area EVEN WHEN BEING POWERED UP. May I please just remind ALL members that ANY model with an undercarriage MUST be restrained in an appropriate way AT ALL TIMES whilst being prepared for flight, and those without undercarriage must be restrained by a third party, as is also required for ANY model to be transported to the flight line. If you do not have a restraint and you either don't fancy making one, or purchasing one via the Internet, Joe Farrington is able to assist you with a fabricated restraint.
Hope to see you all soon, whether that be at the field or at the sale.

MAY NEWS 2015

As the weather is improving more and more flying is taking place, which for many is good news.

The site, however, will be undergoing some changes and some of these changes may well affect ourselves, hopefully for the better. Many of you will know about the clubs lock on the side (pedestrian) gate at the field.

We have been given responsibility for this gate and lock by the local council and as such we need to police it accordingly. Please do not give the code out or leave the code visible on the lock, please use this gate wherever necessary and lock it after using it.

For a few years now members have been driving onto the site to unload and load models and gear, unfortunately this may well have to change as the security of the site changes and we should not take for granted the easy access we have enjoyed as it may well soon be over.

On the plus side, the grass is looking better, and plans are afoot to (hopefully) ensure our patch is well taken care of for the foreseeable future.

Please come down to the club meeting, after all, it is the members club, and if you would like to have your say, whether it be good or bad, this is the forum for you to voice it, 8 PM MONDAY 11th MAY.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Tom Shaw (secretary)

Ps. We have set a date for the clubs first table top sale, Wednesday the 24th of June, details below.

MARCH NEWS 2015-03-09

This year 2015  you  do not need to stand down from flying at the  race course site when  a water plane event is on, providing there  is not a race horse  meeting or any other form of events on at the site, please also remember  Sunday mornings untill 1.00 pm in the afternoon,

NO FLYING because of the car boot market which take's place across from the flying site .

See no flying dates .

All participants at the 2015 water plane  events, will only be able to fly on 2.4Ghz thus removing the need for our pilots to "stand down". This has been checked as a safe approach with the BMFA and subsequently approved, If you are unsure whether you may fly please email the committee to check.

January 2015 News

Hello and a happy new year to all Trent RCMFC members both past, present and indeed (hopefully) some future ones as well!!

As mentioned above, we hope you all had a great Christmas and a happy new year.

The meeting will take place at our new venue, Colwick community centre (opposite the vale social club) on Vale road, Colwick.

Meeting will start at 8PM SHARP on Monday 12th of January.

Please come down and participate, after all it is your club and your views matter. Following on from Novembers AGM, there are quite a few matters that need deliberation and no doubt some safety updates. The club funds these meetings (room hire) and although this doesn't (by comparison) cost as much as other venues, plus the fact we have cut down from 12 meetings a year, then to 6 and now cut down to a super efficient 4 meetings per year, we would like to get the attendance rates up with regards to the membership so we are not only efficient, but also effective.

Please, come down and support YOUR club, 8pm Monday the 12th January.

Hope to see you all there

(Club secretary)

CHRISTMAS NEWS DECEMBER 2014

Hi everyone, and as I write this the weather has turned cold the wind is blowing and it looks like a winter project is on the cards.

After saying that we have had a decent few summer months in which to indulge our hobby and before you all say what about the long grass we have had one or two problems with the long grass mainly due to new guns at the racecourse.

Hopefully Tom has got this sorted for next year and the new team at the racecourse are onboard.

At this time I would like to take this opportunity to once more thank Joe Farrington and Brian James as founder members of the club for their support and commitment to the club. They have both served many years on the committee but have now stood down. Joe has not given up instruction within the club so everyone out there wanting to learn he is only to pleased to help.

For those of you who were not at the AGM we have started the new committee year by reducing the committee members from 9 to 7 as the membership has reduced we felt we did not need 9 people. CHAIR.....Tony Mee   SECRETARY..Tom Shaw    TREASURER......Doug Adkin   MINUTE SECRETARY....Eric Lancaster    WEB SITE.....Neal Raynor    Tony Smith   Bret Oliver.

It just leaves me to say thank you to the committee and all members for their support throughout the year and to wish you all....

A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND ALL THE VERY BEST FOR 2015.

Trent Radio Control Model Flying Club
2014 AGM Newsletter

Hello to all Trent members, especially the new ones as there are quite a few of you this year.

After quite a decent summer of flying, both during the day and in the evenings, the nights are now closing in and the “changeable” weather we are currently experiencing means that more of us are finding solitude at the workbench instead of socialising with like minded aviators. Fear not though, for the Annual General Meeting is upon us and it is anticipated to be BIGGER and BETTER than last years!!

To be held AT 7PM ON MONDAY THE 10TH OF NOVEMBER, AT OUR NEW VENUE - COLWICK COMMUNITY CENTRE, Vale Road, Colwick village, NG4 2GP (opposite the vale social club)

Moving forward from last years AGM and fantastic turnout of members, this year will be slightly different. Due to the positioning of the venue, any member that fancies an alcoholic beverage is able to purchase them from the social club over the road and return to the venue, any glasses can be left at the venue at the end of the night.

There will also be hot beverages provided by the club within the venue.

As a bit of a change, and to ensure ALL members benefit, FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY, you will be able to renew your club membership at the reduced rate of £15 yes £15!!

The club has also had a number of models “donated” over the last year which we are planning to auction off on the night. The donations were specifically to provide equipment to enable younger members to learn to fly and we have thanked those who donated these models. If you have any items you wish to sell yourself, feel free to bring them down on the night, an informal bring and buy, if you will.

More importantly, within the envelope which this newsletter was in, there is a nomination and proposal form. There are a couple of committee positions available. Brian Stevens has left the committee for personal reasons whilst Brian James, our honorary president, has advised the committee that he will not be standing for his committee position for the 2015 season. We would all like to thank Brian for his many years of service as part of the committee, and hope he continues to enjoy his flying and aerial photography as part of the club he helped to found over 40 years ago.

Proposals must be received by close of business on Friday 31st of October. Unfortunately, anything received after this deadline cannot be taken into consideration.

Also included is a 2015 application form. Rather than waiting around to see what price the BMFA puts to its annual membership for 2015, the committee have decided to apply 2014 prices to all members who renew their membership through Trent RCMFC.  ........BARGAIN!!

I hope as many of you as possible turn up to the AGM, the club belongs to the members and this is your chance as an individual to have a say in how you want it running, what you would like to see and what you would like to do. You have a voice, please come and use it, 7pm Monday 10th November 2014.
